Default Spring Bolt Length

I bought these bolts from Snyder's, which I understand carries quality stuff, but I am concerned about the length of the bolts. I am worried about the bolts ramming into their respective axles while driving. The front spring bolt protrudes 3" from the bottom leaf and the rear bolt 4" from the bottom. Is there any reason to cut them down, or are they fine as they are?

I am not sure whether you are joking or not, but if not, -YES they are only that length to be able to assist you to build the spring without the aide of a press. Once the spring leaves have been assembled, the tie-bolt is to be cut about .250" below the nut and then peened with a hammer to ensure the nut does not loosen.

I always put grease and powdered graphite on the bottom sides of the leaves before bolting them together. It makes for a nice riding car. I also use spring covers to keep the grease in and dirt out.

Also make sure the square head on top is set correctly so it fits into the frame.

I did use a grease that contains graphite. I'm assuming the bolt head needs to be set so two sides are parallel with the edge of the spring.
