Default 36 ford woodie leaning to the left

i have a 36 woodie that we are just finishing up. took it out of the garage today and notice it is leaning to the left in the back. everything is new or rebuilt on the frame. any suggestions on what i should look at that might be causing this. new rear spring rebuilt shocks etc.

Find a good level spot in your garage, be sure it’s level!!! Pull the Station Wagon on to that spot, get two three friends and have them stand by while you loosen the 4 nuts on the rear spring U Bolts. Have them sit on the high side running board one by one until the frame is level. Thighten the U Bolt nuts on the rear spring and see if that doesn’t correct it!!!

You may also have to put a shim between spring and frame
on the low side. G.M.

hello Samsonized, I managed a 4 wheel drive parts and and accessory store in the late 70s and when we would install the the spring kits it was best not to torque the spring shackle bolts untill the hoist was down and weight of truck, jeep, etc.was on tires. you dont want to preload the shackle bolts. tom.

I suggest crawling under the car and reach up on top of the crossmember in the center to see if the square bolt is properly seated in the locating hole in the crossmember. You could also remove the spring and install it the other way to see if the problem follows the spring. It may be an indication one side is weaker than the other, possibly a broken leaf.

Just a thought. Are the spring shackles angled the same, comparing side to side? If not, take a pry bar and make them the same and then check for the lean.

typical of many early fords. You would think the curb side would be the culprit due to the cross slope in the road. We always called it "bachelor lean". A guy driving around stag in the 30s-50s. I bought a 32 roadster restored and the owner installed a small coil spring between the crossmember and the spring on the drivers side.
