Default Canadian Powerhouse Generator

Here's what a good original powerhouse generator looks like. Notice the close gap between the commutator and brush holders, since no fool has messed with it and cut away good commutator material. I'd buy this in a hearbeat if I needed one. The brushes also have a lot of life left in them.

Heh. I just bought a $9.99 Powerhouse on Ebay - just to get the cast bracket to replace mine that someone had welded.

See it at http://www.ebay.com/itm/1928-1929-FO...p2047675.l2557

It's a former 5 brush machine - the one with the "standoff" for the tensioner meaning (I guess) fairly early.

My Model A takes the P3 generator - but these seemingly came in both forged bracket and cast bracket versions - I have one of each which are due for their rework.

The 5 brush donor machine is rough. It has been out in the weather with the cover and brush holders off - and so far is resisting effort to disassemble. I'm going to save as much as I can, however. The armature may still be useable?

We'll see when I get the growler going.

The powerhouse good armature and unbroken brush holder are the most needed parts.

I've seen Model A's in factory assembly line photos which show the tension backet still used in late November 1928, so I'd say you're good to go for any 1928 to have that bracket, but just as correct for late 28 to not have it.

BTW, the link I gave was for a buy it now CANADIAN powerhouse, which don't often turn up, and one in such good original condition should have been worth the $75 price tag.

I'm pretty sure it is. He doesn't have a good side view, so you have to judge it by the larger radius of the front side where it turns to the side, and also by the output stud. It is tough to be 100% certain though without a better side view. He relisted it, and here's the link:

OK, now I see many more and better pictures have been added, and it clearly is the Canadian powerhouse, as I first called it. It's nice that no one has been messing with it, and I'd bet on it being a good working generator. That's why I'm surprised someone from Canada, or someone owning a Canadian A hasn't bought it yet.

I wonder if the Model A museum has a Canadian powerhouse to display?

This might make a nice gift to the museum.

I wish I heard about this generator. Mine (an early Canadian A) is in pretty decent shape but the brushes and holders should be replaced and I can't seem to find them anywhere which is strange.

Any hints where I might find these parts Tom or anyone?

Have you tried George Moirs in Stony Plain Alberta?

I've repaired cracked and broken brush holders with JB Weld.

Do you have a 3 brush, or a 5 brush unit?
