Oil
In your opinion is it OK to use detergent oil in a Model A motor? I have had the pan off and it is real clean I have had the valve chamber cover off also and it is clean.
Thank you |

Re: Oil
The new Quaker State Defy has added ZDDP for older engines Wal-Mart and Autozone carry it.

Re: Oil
And this is why I requested an oil sticky.
http://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=101788 ZDDP isn't needed in the "A" engine. multiweight is best, stay away from single weight oils. non-detergent oil is garbage. |

Re: Oil
While we are talking about oil what are your thoughts about using synthetic oils in a babbitt bearing engine. I am curious if it would be harmful or beneficial in a freshly rebuilt A engine.

Re: Oil
your damn right its alright to use detergent oil in your A, why would you want to put non detergent oil in a clean engine and screw it up by getting it all sludged up?

Re: Oil
We switched to detergent oil, indoor plumbing, flying air ships, and cordless telephones when they became available.

Re: Oil
The bottom line is---if detergent oil was available to Henry Ford, he would have used it.

Re: Oil
Any good detergent oil manufactured today is much better than the non-detergent ones available when the Model A was manufactured. Do you still remember the re-refined oils they had in the 50's and sold for much less than the new oils. Ran a lot of these in my first car that used about a quart ever 300 miles.
