Rust repair?

Above the bottom ridge on the front side of my 31 pickup is a very thin rust line. The two metal parts almost meet maybe a 1/16 inch apart. They apear solid except for this thin line. Whats the best way to repair? Can they be tac welded on the truck and ground down? Must I add anything behind the line? Thanks John

Most or all good body men cut out the bad metal and weld in a new patch.

Bad body men stuff the hole with newspaper and bondo. Don't laugh, my neighbor fixed some cars that way when I was in high school. The Lincoln looked good enough to sell, but then look out!

You'll need to completely remove all paint and old filler on both sides back to solid metal and then evaluate. Butt welding new metal in place is the only real way to fix this rust-out.

Theere is two types of bondo whith and without FIBER fiberish is strong good luck

Can you post a photo of the spot? Sometimes you can weld on the car. Depends if you can get to the backside of the repair and how close the wood is. Welding is the proper and long term, body filler is a short term fix. Is the car a driver? Or nicely finished and painted, or original "out of the field" "Patina". Do you plan to keep it or is your garage a temporary home for it. But if you do use a body filler, and sell it, then let the buyer know that it is in there.
