Inherited 1930 Model A Truck
Good day all. My wife and I recently picked up our newly inherited Model A from her mother's house which has been dormant for about 8 yrs. Unfortunately, I know nothing about Model A's, therefore, what service manual do you suggest that I purchase? Also, are any of you Model A'ers living in Rochester, NY? Thank you in advance for your help.

Welcome to the family!
Sweet looking truck you have there. In addition to Les Andrews book, the Ford Instruction Book (owners manual) would be a handy reference for you. Please post here for any questions or problems you may encounter - Probably nothing you will come across hasn't been discussed here at one time or another.

Thank you! I have purchased the "Red" and I'm excited to get it so I can get her running and on the road again. I will definitely be picking your brains for information or if I encounter any issues.

Thank you. The wife's grandfather spent a lot of time restoring the truck and I'm excited to keep his spirit alive by getting her running again.

Welcome to the club! That is a great looking truck you have there. You also want to get the Ford Bullitins as they will have things specific to the truck.

Re: Inherited 1930 Model A Truck
Welcome. There is a Model A Ford Club of America chapter in Spencerport*, about 11 miles from Rochester. I suggest you contact them and join that club before you do anything to your new truck. An experienced Model A guy can diagnose what it needs and save you a lot of time, trouble, money, and disappointment, and probably have it running in a couple hours, barring any serious problem, which is unlikely, given your description of the truck. Also join MAFCA and buy a roster. Mine is 10 years old, but I still find it useful. Good luck, and keep us posted.
One Spencerport MAFCA member listed in the 2006 roster is David Pulhamus: 585-3five2-01four9. There are also several Rochester members listed in the roster: Gary Thompson, John Van de Wall, Richard Gunther, Arthur Drummond, Stuart Caswell. You can probably find one of those guys in your local phone book, if such a thing still exists. They may even be familiar with your truck. *Lakeshore A's 513 Stoney Point Rd Spencerport, NY 14559

Nice truck. Books are great, and I have read my share, but one guy with good experience can be a valuable friend, and cut the learning curve way down. Good Luck!

Very Nice truck. I am glad your family member left it to you. I echo strongly about the Les Andrews Book. Also join MAFCA and visit this site daily. Welcome to the wonderful hobby of the Model A.

Re: Inherited 1930 Model A Truck
Joining a local chapter is another great way to get information. You might visit www.mafca.com and look for a chapter in your area. There is a great little event coming up in the next few weeks in the New England area. It moves around each year but there will be lots of Model As and people willing to give you all kinds of advice.
