Default What is the Material Between Body Wood and the Metal Body Panels

When I took the body wood out of the body there was kind of a fuzzy material between the wood and the metal body panels. I want to put something back on the wood when I put it back in, but not really sure what is was? Felt? Cotton batting? Does someone know what it was or is, and what would be used today to accomplish the same thing? Thanks
