Re: Front hub inner bearing race
You should really use a KR Wilson puller but they are hard to find . You can use a punch with a round head not chisel ended . If you look down the outer bearing hole you will see the "lip" of the inner race . You can then engage the punch and start to knock out the race . Vary where you hit so you do not rock the race too much so you do not stretch the land where the bearing sits If the land gets stretched the new race will be a loose fit ,not good . Take your time no rush I use a propane torch to heat the area it makes it a bit easier to punch it out .To fit the new race I heat the land and put the new race in the freezer for a while and then punch it in vary where you hit so it goes in square .

Re: Front hub inner bearing race
Bratton's has a tool that will remove both the inner and outer races.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EB4bE-KYkm8 You may need a variety of punches. Always wear eye protection from chips exploding off a punch. |

Re: Front hub inner bearing race
Don't use a hardened steel punch on any bearing you may want to use again, the bearing can chip or crack. Brass is best but soft steel will work well too.

Re: Front hub inner bearing race
I just punch them out and then grind the outside diameter to side into the hole. Then use that to drive/press in the new one.

Re: Front hub inner bearing race
Another clue that it's an expert is that at the start it says: "having trouble removing the racer plates in the hubs of your tire?"

Re: Front hub inner bearing race
Recently i posted a video of roads in a very remote area and a guy was using a chainsaw with flip flops as you call them. So i'm improving my safety aspects as I go along. And added the safety glasses.

Flip-flops and a chainsaw ? They're a long way apart, can't see a problem. [smiley face]

Re: Front hub inner bearing race
I read someplace not to use brass to drive them out or in? I, too, grind the perimeter of an old bearing to seat the new one.
