Default Stuck engine after fuel pump failure

I am usually on the EV8 forum, and this engine problem may be a little to late model for this forum, but maybe the members have a solution. '74 Ford 351 Windsor engine. The engine ran great up to the point the fuel pump failed. We replaced it, and tried to restart the engine, but it turned over very slow as if the battery was low. The battery was fine, we loaded tested it. Checked the oil and and found it was overfilled/ We realized when the fuel pump failed it leaked gas into the oil pan. We changed the oil & filter, and it wouldn't turn over with the starter or by hand. Suggestions ? Thank you.

As long as the pump was installed correctly and she still won't turn over ...

Did you remove the plugs and try? Sounds like a tear down.

I'd suspect badly galled main and rod bearings, and the crank won't be any better.

Fuel pump. Don't know that much about the 351 Windsor. I am EV8 guy. How is the fuel pump driven, off a camshaft lobe or a push rod ? We have the plugs out and shot MMO in the cylinders. Any other tips for freeing u the engine before we pull the pan ? Thank you.

Hate to say it, but it sure sounds like it had enough fuel in the oil to do what dmsfrr said: damage one or more bearings on the crank. Even if you get it to turn it is likely going to fail shortly and hurt more parts. Best to drop the pan and start pulling rod and main bearing caps...

It is driven off an eccentric bolted to the front of the cam. Just for my curiosity, remove the pump and see if she turns by hand.

If she won't, you will need a crankcase kit (cheapest way out).

You know, that is a very good question. It is a term used by a CRS impaired senior.

The correct term is CRANKSHAFT KIT. It is a re-manufactured (turned) crank fitted with bearings in a box.

And I just had another hot flash - (and it wasn't an errant gas bubble) ..

Gasoline in a crankcase can be ignited by a misfire or errant spark. Crank by hand only until properly diagnosed and drained/refilled.

Already drained & changed the oil. Took out about 2 gallons of oil & gas.

Not sure how bad a Windsor is about it, but I have seen SBCs just about fill the crankcase with fuel. Most of my Windsors have been FI, except back beyond my memory span!

Take the new fuel pump back off and try to crank the engine. If the engine now turns over normally, you had the wrong pump installed or there is something wrong with that new pump. You didn't install the pump upside down, did ya?
