oil pump idler gear
ive found alot of posts on how to remove the idler gear, but none on how to put it back in the block. so, um, big hammer or... how should i do it.

I put mine in the freezer and when cold tap it in, lube bore of gear first.

Its an interference fit oil it square it up and drive it home with a brass hammer

I attach block to stand at the bell housing end. This makes a hammer impossible to use. After the final wash-and-clean I put a 1/2" bolt, with extentsion nut, between the flange of engine stand and the head of idler shaft and press the shaft in by unscrewing the bolt.

thanks for the replies, seems easy enough to put back in. i have two of the posts and gears. both have some good wear. how much wear is too much? i cannot find anything about this. thanks.
