Default Center lock wrist pins

I have some center lock Pistons that I want to replace with new ones. I want to reuse the rods, so can I remove those pins myself, and how? Or do I need to go to a shop.

You can, the pins just drive out. Chances are the bushing will need renewing which also mean they will need to honed to fit the new wrist pins. As it is you need a special tool to install the center lock wrist pins, it's a tapperd pin that is about the same outer diameter of the wrist pin. It was driven in ahead of the wrist pin and spread the ring clip apart. With the ring clip in place you may or may not encounter issues when you try and install the new wrist pins.

Most people buy pistons with c-clip piston pins as part of the package.

Re-use of rods usually means re-bushing and reaming/honing the upper pin bush - well along with re-babbiting the lower. New upper bushings usually don't include the spring ring - the bush is usually just grooved for lubrication and not split like the spring-ring version.

Not to say you can't have anything you want - including the OEM setup with split bush. But off the shelf components are usually easier and have less chance of screw up.

I have only heard of one instance of a spring pin retainer clip coming loose and scoring the cylinder wall.
