Default Water pump bypass hose

good afternoon. I am in the process of changing all of the hoses on my 60 T'bird which has the standard 352 engine. The bypass hose looks like it is going to be interesting! I have read about cutting the old one out to save the nipples, and about folding the new hose to get it in,but no one mentions how to get at it. I am assuming that the expansion tank and thermostat housing has to come off to give access? Is this correct, or is there a better way. Thanks for the help. Jim.

Back when I had a 390 I would cut the hose at an angle in the bypass hose on one end so that I could bend it and slip it over the nipple on one end. I would put it on the water pump first then bend the hose so that the trimmed part would slip over the manifold nipple. But you can't cut the angle too much or you won't have enough rubber left on the nipple to keep it from leaking.
