Default model B rods

Good morning. I have been cleaning up parts and starting to assemble the B engine that I got a few weeks ago. It is a diamond block with forged counterweight crank. The Babbitt was done by shop unknown for previous owner. The connecting rods are babbitted and have an oil well cut in the babbit directly over the dipper, but do not have the X shaped oil grooves . Is this an omission or are there more than one school of thought on how to do this. Should I cut some grooves before assembly, or put it together as is? If I cut them is there guideline as th how deep? Thanks, appreciate the help. Jim.

I like to use the Ford pattern of oil grooves, he did more in an hour than I will do in a life time. If you have an old A or B rod around, use that as a pattern to cut the grooves, I go .030 or so deep, cut using a 1/8 ball end mill in a high speed die grinder. The X grooves tie in the dipper supply to the oil reliefs at the parting line so that the whole bearing gets oiled.

X Grooves on a Model A same as a Model B, just to many pictures to look through.

This was one of our spun poured rods.
