Default Tools for removing Shock Links

Thought I read a post on here just the other day that listed some tools that were useful in removing shock links. I meant to take some notes but forgot. I have searched and cannot find it, does anyone else remember or know how to find it? I tried searching on "shock", "removal" and "link" and get nothing?

There were two tools mentioned, one slipped between the ball of the link and the shock arm, and the other side of it had a threaded piece that pushed out the link stud.

Has it been removed? Anyone remember which tools were used?

Thanks

DavidG suggested this tool to me for removal of the ball stud on a '32 front end.

It worked well and was reasonable.

Perhaps you're thinking of the lengthy thread on the V8 Club website on that topic which concerned the removal of a broken shock link. Therein several different specific suggestions were made regarding various available tools for that purpose.

I place a block of wood between the shock arm and the frame, back the nut off a bit and hit it with a hammer. Usually pops right loose. I use anti-seize on the tapered portion

If it is broken and you are not reusing it, just smack it with a mini sledge. Always good to run the nut flush with the bolt so it doesn't mushroom on you. Pickle forks can work well also. If I understand what you are asking.

You have to do a search on HF for what you need. It defaults to the main page for me on that link. A pickle fork or ball joint separator from them is about 10$. If you are really cheap you can probably get one on loan from autozone for free if you return it. For some reason I like to have the tool in the garage for the one time I use it in a decade. I'm weird like that. But I needed a crank pully removed on a yblock. Didn't want to spend the 80$. Charge hold on my cc from autozone and return it with full refund.

The link is part of what I quoted from Tim Ayers. Here's a pic of what was referred to. I'm the same way with tools. I've a special drawer for the once in a blue moon use. It is nice to have on hand as well to lend or help out others with when they need them and don't want to buy for the one time use. Better to lend yourself with the tool tho, then your sure to get it back.

I get it. I've lost a couple torque wrenches lending over time! Why if I'm helping someone I go and help and take the tools home. Nothing ever replaces the right tool for the job when you need it. Just an option to get tools you need for them special times for nothing. You do need to return them! or they will charge you!

Thanks for the responses. DavidG, you are correct, it was the Early Ford V8 website string I was thinking of.

There are two tools mentioned. For reference they are:

1.) Ball Joint separator:

or

https://www.harborfreight.com/3-4-qu...oint+separator

2.) Tie Rod End Tool:

I cut the shock link in half, put the shock arm in a vise and beat it out.

I have had great results using one BFH on one side of the arm where the stud on the link goes through the hole in the arm and another BFH on the other side. Hold one steady against the side of the arm where the stud on the link goes through and then strike the other side with the other BFH and usually it will separate immediately.
