Has anyone tried the starting motor accessory that lets you start the car from the ignition lever

Ignition lever? Are you sure? You wouldn't be speaking of the spark advance lever to the left side of the steering column just below the steering wheel would you? There is an accessory called an "upstart."

I've seen it called sparky start as well... I mean if everything is adjusted correctly it should work...just gotta remember to not fully retard the car while enginee is running

My Town Sedan had 'parts' of an Up-Start http://www.snydersantiqueauto.com/up-start installed when I bought it. taken off now. I never had all the parts to "try it" and couldn't really see a need for it.
Foot works well for me.

I did have one of these reproduction "up start", which was a knock off of an original FULTON accessory starter. It did not work well. And I soon took it off.

50 years ago I had an original "DuoTro" dash mounted hand-starter, with built in choke. It worked very well. But was just 'candy', and not a real improvement over the foot starter.

I have used this starter accessory for years now. I first put it on when In had a foot injury and couldn't use the foot starter button. It has worked for years now and I never took it off. Jack

I installed the SparkyStart version on our '30 Woody so my wife would not try to start the car with the spark advanced. It works like a charm. However, she still needs to pull the spark advance lever down ... to turn off the starter motor. One good idea caused another concern. Bottom line, though, we are keeping the gizmo. It works.

My looooong leg brace won't allow my foot to get on the BUTTON, I use a looooong Snap-On Screwdriver. Without the rubber pad, it would be useless! It's HARD to do in the DARK. Some things are EASIER, in the DARK--LOL
