COOL "ol'" 40 coupe - Running moonshine car
City:
Scottsboro
State:
Al
Price:
22000 aski
Own an aged, original Moonshine runner. This car has survived over time escaping the FEDS and then the cotton fields of Alabama. It is an excellent, seasoned piece of great Americana. It was parkend in 1968 and was a barn find in North Alabama.
I have owned this car for seven years and thought it would be a crime to restore it ot its original beauty. This car has been extensively mechanically overhauled to make it road worth. This past show season it was driven over 400 miles to the Moonshine Festival in Dawsonville, GA. This car would rival Bob Drake's "ol' 35 project car" ten times over. Check it out, shoot me an email for complete details, and own your own '40 Ford beauty. [email protected] Last edited by Easyrider; 02-05-2011 at 07:33 PM. Reason: SOLD |

I found one in a apple farmers barn in Upstate NY. 30,000 miles. All Original. Got her running and that's as far as I'm taking it! Jim

Re: COOL "ol'" 40 coupe - Running moonshine car
It had wooden crates, 2 behind the seat with a cut out of the package
tray behind the drivers seat, they hauled quarts there and loaded the trunk. Had to go to the cotton field by day! |

Re: COOL "ol'" 40 coupe - Running moonshine car
Only one way in and out of Estell Fork!!! (unless your a mule)
I was told it had two runs, east and west. West involved Huntland, Winchester, New Market. East involved running down Paint Rock Valley to Gurley, Scottsboro, Skyline and back down the mtn home. Some of the white wiskey makers floated it down the Paint Rock River and picked it up at the bridge. |

Re: COOL "ol'" 40 coupe - Running moonshine car
Good question 32B..there are 2 groups of non Henry Ford lights on the back. We all know standards only had the single tail/brake light. The 3 "chicken" lights I think were for night safety later in the cars life. However,I was told 2 stories about the large headlight types. One was to light up the mtn woods when backing in to load and the other was(most roads dirt)to blind the feds when being chased, especially in the curves!

Re: COOL "ol'" 40 coupe - Running moonshine car
This is a great looking 'ol 40...I am amazed at the condition of the body of this 70+ year old car. Could you describe the condition? Is that the original Ford black paint remaining?

Re: COOL "ol'" 40 coupe - Running moonshine car
The picures really show most of the dents, scrapes, breaks, etc. What paint is left is mostly Henry Fords except for the hood. It had some help with a paint brush at some point. The tool tray is shot, rust wise.
There are a couple patchable spots behind the seat in the floor but the rest of car and frame is good. |

Re: COOL "ol'" 40 coupe - Running moonshine car
Still interested in the car and thinking on it...another couple of questions: How are the fenders where they attach to the running boards? And, does the seat back raise from the bottom?

Re: COOL "ol'" 40 coupe - Running moonshine car
The fenders and running boards where they bolt together are super. The seat back does raise from the bottom(see pic). The roof rail(drip edge)
is great on both sides(see pic) Thanks for asking. [email protected] |
