Light Switch/Horn Rod Assy Question

I am re-assembling the steering column and light switch body in my '29
after having the steering box rebuilt. Before I insert the infamous little
'C' clip do I have to worry about the clocking between the light lever, the
spider and the light switch itself within the cadmium switch body?
Yes, I am starting with positioning the light lever at 6 o'clock.
For some reason, it looks like the switch notches might be off by 45 degrees
with respect to the 2 spider tabs.
(Sorry, I am new to this...I even consulted the Les Andrews red book.)

The two prongs have to go into the correct slots in the moveable plate within the switch. You are correct with the 6 o'clock position on the steering wheel. I seem to recall that the plate with the two prongs on it sits so that as you push the two halves together the prongs are straight across the switch, (horizontal) as seen from above, as you bring the left hand* part to mate with that which is attached to the steering box. If its wrong you will find out that the switch plain doesn't work, in my experience anyway, though I'm fairly new also. 1993 was my first functioning A. No harm done, just try it again until it does work. I doubt you can actually get it all together if the prongs don't go into the slots.

(* That is left hand as in your left hand while you work over the fender)

I just replaced my light switch on my 29, just rotate the plate inside the switch so it is is the correct orientation for the spider tabs. Sounds like it is in one the "on" positions

I have a 7 tooth box in my 29. When I bought it with the exception of the lights themselves, all other parts of the lighting system was missing. Horn rod, light switch, wiring harness. After gathering all the parts, I couldn't get things assembled. One problem, when the steering box was assembled, the end cap was on upside down! Once I turned it 180 degrees things got a lot easier.

If the spider is still off put the light switch in the column, the notch/nub on light switch should be on the bottom

Alan,Thanks for the comment and glad you got it together. I made a tool out of a 3 inch piece of 1/2 inch pvc pipe for sprinklers and a 1 in. piece of the pvc with a half inch tee coming off of it. I glued the 3 into the 1/2 tee on the 1 in. piece and then on my grinding wheel created a notch in the free end of the 3+ pc. When I need to take the c clip out of the spider I tie a bungie cord over the light switch and affixed to the steering wheel tight enough to allow me to push the on the spider to make it go up the control rod without the rod moving. With my free hand I pluck the c clip out with a magnet. To see all this, I hold a small pen light with my teeth aimed at where I am working. I can reverse the situation to reinstall the c clip. Before I made that tool I was spending sometimes up to a half hour and a weeks worth of cuss words and patience just to get that clip in. Now I don't dread that job at all.
