Default Grease Fittings

I poked a needle into my stock Ford grease fittings ( to make sure they weren’t plugged), but when greasing, I don’t know if grease is entering, it just squirts out around the fitting.
I would like to change the stock grease fittings and install Zerk type. How do you remove the factory fittings an install the new Zerk type ? It seems as though they are just pressed in. Can anyone help?

You can bump the unthreaded fittings out with a hammer and small chisel or screwdriver. The vendors sell replacement fitting sets like this.

However, it can be hard to drive the friction fit fittings back into the suspension. The threaded fittings work fine.

Getting the old ones out is pretty much like pulling teeth. Grab them with a pair of vice grips and rock them back & forth while pulling.

That’s a good analogy.

It could be that the sleve / bushing in there is rotated around blocking the passage. I think I have one that is doing that. Sometimes I can get grease into it, sometimes not.
