Tube Headers
Anyone have experience with tube headers from C&G Ford Parts? They advertise as “exactly like Red’s headers” with no bending of dipstick required. Looking to replace the original exhaust manifolds on a ’37 engine in a stock ’36 frame with these. They also have the extension tubes for battery in the stock location but no picture.
Thanks

Re: Tube Headers
One thing you should Know. The addition of headers and dual exhaust. Does not increae power a measure able amt. READ JWL's book. However, with that said. They do sound great.

Re: Tube Headers
I used Red's on my 41 pickup with an 8BA. They fit great. So if these are really "exactly" like Red,s they are top quality.

Re: Tube Headers
From a 56 Hot Rod Magazine about Flathead exhaust manifolds , it said stock manifolds work ok unless the engine is highly modified. if you are looking for a particular exhaust sound try some different brands of mufflers. I have a set of off brand steel packs that are 25 years old and they have a nice sound to them.

Ol' Ron, hearing that makes me think the flatheads have a very restrictive exhaust system in the block. Does the power pick up any with dual exhausts if there is porting done in the block ? I know it must be tough or impossible to port the exhaust passages across the inside of the block. Maybe not enough wall thickness too ? Sal |

Re: Tube Headers
There is more to steel tube heads than sound, there is also the look!

Re: Tube Headers
I not expecting any performance increase with the tube headers. The car currently has a funky "dual exhaust". A pipe extension was welded downstream of the 26" Smitty muffler. Barely any exhaust exits through this pipe on the drivers side. I'm looking to have a true dual exhaust. And, I like the looks of the black headers from C&G! I might try straight pipes with an option for steel packs.

Re: Tube Headers
The pros/cons of headers vs stock cast iron manifolds on an engine that is basically stock will most likely never be resolved because of the prevailing mind-set, don't try to confuse me with facts, I already have my mind made up.
It is very true that headers do look neat, smooth flowing lines, similar to the female shape. However, it is a fact that headers are meant to be ran on an open exhaust, and that they generally do not start to work until the engine gets above 3,000 rpms.. A good set of cast iron manifolds with 2"/ 2-1/4" pipes and the mufflers of your choice, will provide all the power that a stock engine can produce...

Re: Tube Headers
Love me my Fentons! I am in the process of changing engines. The headers have been on the car for 38 years, and except for some surface rust, look good as new.

Re: Tube Headers
It would be wise to buy JWL's book, It answers this amd many other questions that can save you money down stream. AS for the exhaust ports, they flow better than you think and offer no resistance to flow in a stock or mild engine. For that you should buy my book.

Re: Tube Headers
Jseery is the way to go, I like to make my own exhaust systems and working with the big tubes in those old frames is not worth the effort to me but I'm not into racing either.

Re: Tube Headers
True statement, but the 1 3/4 size is based on sound and performance I believe, and not just the ease of routing.
