Default Good Morning Nice Car conversation

Had an admirer this morning asks the usual questions like: Nice looking car win any car shows? What year? What kind of car? You know the usual...

So the answers went kinda like this: Good morning, yes we have been fortunate to win a trophy or three. 1950 Ford, THEN it gets kind Mo, Larry and Curly(ish)

Me: 1950 Ford... Ford, Custom
Them: O Ok, what kind of car? Hudson?

Me: Nope it is a Ford Custom

Them: Ok I know it's custom but what kind of car? Hudson?

Me: Nope it's a a Ford Custom, Custom is the model.
Them: O Ok, Ford Custom but it's a Hudson? It has an H on it.
Me ??? H? ITS A Ford... thanks have a good day

Me driving away: ?????

After I park I was like what in the world was that... as I'm walking away I look back like we all do just to see our cars(you know you do it too) and I see the 8 in the center of the grill and get it. The person must have thought it was an H not an 8 but then there is the whole FORD emblem right above the 8.. O well

Yeah, those people are around. Heck, when I was about 10 I could name every car on the road. Now, I have no clue what any of these newfangled things are until I look for the badge.

This past summer I parked my '37 Ford and when I got out a guy asked me if it was a Plymouth. Man I just about fell over from the insult. I nicely told him it was a Ford.

Just imagine the conversation with a 50 Meteor; even in the country it came from!

Good one!

I have this old guy (ten years younger than me since he shared his age with me the last time), who has stopped by several times when I have my '32 in the driveway and it goes like this:

"Oh, tell me again, what year is it?"
"How much is it worth?" Usually asks me this five or six times a visit!
I always tell him its not for sale.
"Yeah, but how much is it worth?"
Last time I told him 5 million :-)
"What color is it?"
I tell him but he'll ask me several more times .....

Who's on first? :-)

It all happened because FoMoCo removed the F O R D from the vehicle in 1950 and replaced it with the Crest.

I can see the reason for that as the grill layout is similar to a Ford but I still remember a bloke I know talking to me many years ago: quote " you know that Chevy of yours"

Bruce,

This has probably happened to you.

I'm putting gas in my '50 Convertible. Guy walks up:

"'49, right?" Me, close - it's a '50.

He says "There's only one way to tell a '49 from a '50." Me - I can show you 7 differences just standing here.

Guy "Nope, there's only one." Walks away.

See. I learned something that day.

Ken

It's like " my uncle had one just like yours, but it was a green, four door, Plymouth."

Ken,
In my case, they can't fiqure out the year of manufacture Minnesota license plate.

"How can you have a 1949 Minnesota license on a 1950 Ford?"

Even worse, I have YOM plates on my '67 Corvette. Minnesota had gone to the "sticker system" by then, so I have '65 plates with '67 stickers. That really confuses them.

I think it's just people trying to "fit in" and demonstrate their (lack of) knowledge about our cars.

I have a '58 Nomad wagon. Some guys want to argue with me, insisting it cannot be real, they never made a four-door Nomad!

My folks had one of those. I hope yours doesn't have a Turboglide like theirs did.

My favorite example happened in the 90s. My dad had a 41 Ford fordor at that time and frequently got in conversations about the car. One person remembered their dad had one "just like it, only it was a 1950 and a Dodge".
