Default '53 Convertible latch handle and mechanism

When I bought my '53 the latch handle for the top was missing. I have managed to find a new handle but need to work out how to lubricate the latching mechanism so as not to break the new handle. Is there a way to lube this without removing the top?

I use White grease on a brush and 3 in 1 oil. First put the top down. then you can get at the lever mechanism and the rods that go out into the holes of the top pins (on top of the window) grease all three of the top pins. You can access the end of the rods, through the openings in the header, for the pins. You can see the end of the rods when you close the locking handle. I always pull down on the top, from inside, when closing the handle.

Thanks Merc Cruzer for your input, I will give it a try, when the weather permits

I got white grease in a spray can, with a plastic straw on it
