Rancheros and Utes

KULTULZ posted this picture of a 56 Ford that had been made into a Ranchero. I thought that I would start of a new Thread for these "utes".

Here is another conversion to a "ute" made from a 1956 Ford Fairlane Parklane two door wagon. I spotted this one in Albuquerque a few years back. Sorry about the picture but this is as close as I could get to it.

That is a different approach, built around a 1956 Ford Fairlane Crown Victoria. Very nice.

Thanks, Mercman! Still great fun and a great conversation starter - just turned 64k, so maybe time for another cross-country trip to "blow out the carbon!" Oldest Granddaughter graduates High School in May (Grand Rapids, MI), so maybe I'll show Michiganders what I think Ford should have presented as a Ranchero replacement......MY opinion, guys: yours may vary!

Don't think it started out as a Parklane, but rather a Crown Vic. The Parklane still had the taller windshield than the Crown, and it would take a lot of work to make the "Crown" fit a wagon roofline. JMHO

This one is very well done IMO. It appears he took the rear glass (and panel) from a 72/ RANCHERO.

I have been ciphering on these and believe the easiest (and cheapest) way to go about it would to be chop a CUSTOM WAGON, and if becoming a CROWN trim-out, actually replace the front roof section and windshield.

Hopefully... ..., someone would not start with an actual PARKLANE or CROWN as I imagine they are getting scarce and worth more restored.

Here are pictures of a local "home created" 1956 Ford Ranchero. To be technically correct, I should call this one a 1957 model, as our local 1957 Fords came with the side trim from the 1956 Ford Fairlanes. This is a nicely styled owner built Ute with cleaner lines than the Mainline Ute that Ford Australia offered at this time. The Mainline Ute got rear fenders that jutted out, so having a smooth side like this one, is very nice. Unlike the "utes" in previous Posts, this one does have the high windshield, as the Sedan and Ute were the only two body styles offered by Ford Australia.

KULTULZ - Are we seeing the same "Ute" above? In the top picture, it appears to have the plexiglass roof, yet not in the bottom picture? Also, spotlights on the top vehicle and not on the bottom vehicle - or am I incorrect? I would like to see some straight on side pictures of these Utes: the Truckstang appeared to be "bob-tailed" until 8 inches were added to the rear quarters. I don't have a working tailgate, as the Truckstang was a styling exercise; however, it was constructed in 1990/91, and is going to receive new paint in the near future - I may add a tailgate, just for fun.

You have a point. My eyes are not up to snuff...

I found those in a thread on another site- URL included. There are several more photos there.

To produce the Durango, National Coach Works used the body of the Ford Fairmont Futura two-door coupe. Aft of the B-pillar, the roof was removed along with the trunklid and rear seating area. Behind the rear seats, the company added a flat-floor fiberglass cargo bed along with a bulkhead and new rear window behind the two front seats. The rear fascia above the bumper was redesigned into a fold-down tailgate. As the tailgate included the license plate and taillamps, the Durango was produced with a disclaimer warning drivers from driving with the tailgate in the down position.[1][4]

There is a pretty complete Parklane at Jim's Auto Salvage in Sturgis

If you check the roofline on the two yellow 55s in thread 11,against the 56 roofline in thread 13, it's easy to see the difference in the two. Thread 17 is again a sedan roofline.
