Craigslist can be your friend on this. Post an ad asking for a ride for your head with someone heading in that direction. A little help with gas money will probably get it pretty close to him.

Fastenal IS shipping, just not between their West and East regions.
I just used them yesterday to ship some parts to me from Maryland to NC.
Still the most cost effective way for hobbyists to move occasional freight in my opinion.
