V8 id
Guys my v8 has 21 studs - waterpumps are at the front of the heads.
I was told it was a 1937. what engine is this and will it have poured bearings ? I have heard reference to peanut v8 & 60HP - what is all that about then ? Thanks in advance Bob |

Re: V8 id
Your engine MAY be a 37, but if it is, it will have blanking plates over where the pumps would mount at the front of the block. If no blanking plates, it is a 32-36 engine. Only the later 36 engines had insert bearings (ie not poured).
There are people on here far more expert than I on the earlier engines and they will probably be able to tell you exactly what you have. The first thing to check is the blanking plates, that will say whether 37 or not. The V8-60 is a smaller unit and has (I think) 19 head studs. As yours has 21 studs, yours is not one of those. V8-60 has 17 studs, is a much smaller engine, and has the water pumps mounted into the front timing cover. As Mart says, if your engine has block off plates at the front of the engine, it is a 37 with earlier heads. If there is no place for water pumps at the front of the block, it is somewhere from 32-36. Pictures would help nail it down more specifically. |

Re: V8 id
Ah 17 studs for the V8-60, not 19. I was just writing off the top of my head, I've never been too familiar with the smaller motor. Thanks.

Bobby, Here is a comparison of the 35-36 block and 37 block showing the difference in the water pump area. PLEASE TAKE THE 37 DRAWING WITH A GRAIN OF SALT AS I DID SOME EDITING TO THE ORIGINAL FOR CLARITY.
