Re: Paint v/s Japaning
In the Nov-Dec 2019 issue of The Restorer magazine there was a good article on how to make you own Japan Black Enamel and how to apply it to the carburetor.

Re: Paint v/s Japaning
I had some wood stove black polish that I put on my short term Zenith B and it's holding up surprisingly well. Just food for thought.

Re: Paint v/s Japaning
Very interesting. I hadn’t heard of this process or forgot I did, but the article was an interesting read. I would kind of like to try this.

You will need to add a flattening agent (rosin) to knock down the gloss. |

Re: Paint v/s Japaning
Thanks for all the responses. I will research the article in the restorer for the recipe. I want a durable finish that won't wash off with gasoline.

Re: Paint v/s Japaning
This is what I use on my carburetors. Leaves a glossy finish rather than a a more matt one as original but it holds up really well against gasoline.
A couple of coats of the high heat paint, let it cure for a couple days then a couple light coats of the clear fuel proof LustreKote. Hobby Town carries the clear.
