Default Rebuild kit for a 1953 Mercury dual action fuel pump

Anyone have a source for a rebuild kit for a dual action fuel pump for a 1953 Mercury?

I have tried about everyone that I have used in the past and no luck.

Thanks in advance.

"military vehicle parts dealers", not sure who that would be?

The fuel pump part number is: 1CM-9350-A, the fuel pump kit number is MBK-9349-B (51-53)

There were two different designs of dual or double action pumps but this was the only link I could find. The others are Willys Jeep & Kaiser parts.

This Link mentions Charlie Schwendler. He's not on here but he's still around.

Gave them a call, and she said "where it is supposed to be, the shelf is empty". When I inquired if they were getting more, "I am not sure"

Thank you for the lead.

When I bought my car this is what was on it. I think it was the prior model for 49'-51'.

You might check with this outfit as well.
https://www.then-now-auto.com/produc...uel-pump-kits/

My old Mercury cars didn't have them from the factory since they were made for the flat land western states where it doesn't rain as much but I ended up with a few of them anyway. My pop likely tried them out or they came off of other engines he had since trucks used them too. They were made by AC and should have an AC number on them.

The FPA-186 kit is the late one for flatheads but I can't tell you for sure if it fits yours.

Called them, they only do carbs, not fuel pumps. I have used them for my carb parts though.

Thanks any way.

Try Arthur Gould, he is a rebuilder of fuel pumps and advertised in Hemmings. I don’t know if he sells kits but should be able to get a rebuilt pump if you can’t find kit.

I think the tall one is the 1539544 and the short one is the 1539776 which is likely a later pump. The one in the photos looks like a 9544. These were AC numbers I believe. The FPA-176 kit should work for the 9544 (Then and Now Automotive)

Thank you for the lead. As it turns out the FPA -186, is the one for my pump.

Mine is not stamped AC, but from the one I found on line, I think the AC number my pump is 5592316

Thanks again for the lead.

Just curious, what is the purpose of the dual action pump? I have never seen one on a flathead. My 52 seems to work fine with the single action.

The dual action is for providing vaccum to the windshield wipers. Some will just buy a single action pump (which is cheaper) and use another source of vacuum and others convert to electric wipers if they changed their electrical to 12 volt. Me I don't drive my old stuff in the rain, period.

It acts as a vacuum booster. It's connected to the manifold for a low pressure source and it is further lowered by the pump to keep the windshield wipers from crapping out under load conditions like they tend to do normally. It keeps the wiper motor speed more consistent under all conditions. The drawback is that it takes a bit more wear and tear for a system that only functions when it's raining or snowing. If you have one of these then of course you will need the windshield washer option on there too.

The top chamber pumps gas and the bottom chamber is the vacuum pump.

What does the vacuum, on the bottom of the fuel pump power?

1. Wiper motor
2. Heater water valve
3. Windshield washers

And when that is not enough, you add the Trico Electro-Vac (yes, made by the same manufacture as the wiper motor), to keep your wipers going, when you are climbing a hill. The neat thing is, that it will power the wipers, even when the car is turned off.

If I am not mistaken, Lincolns had a power antenna, that was vacuum powered.

I'd say that you have the whole shebang when it comes to a vacuum system.

If I drove the old 51 with efficiency in mind, the wipers would still function at highway speed but not very fast. The old 1953 3100 deluxe Chevy pickup I used to drive for work would crap out if a person was driving into the wind during a storm. If going the other direction it would work but slowly. Just enough to see until a truck went past. Ah, those were the days I tell ya.

Yours is the unit that was used, prior to mine, and I would like to stay with the later unit. For anyone looking, I will ask the price anyway.

Thank you,
