Default Is 8 Volts from Generator Too Much?

I have a 50 car running real well, but not road legal yet so I just drive up and down out in front of my shop. Using a 6v Optima with which it's normal resting charged state seems to be 6.36. I bought a cheap Chinese analog voltmeter which is, surprisingly, dead accurate and I leave it connected. I've accumulated about 3 NOS regulators and the one I was using put out about 7.5. When I was reinstalling the inner fenders I just left on there a different NOS regulator I'd put on there mocking things up trying to remember how things go.

And this one puts out every bit of 8 volts. I've never driven more than a mile or so at a time, (watching for the sheriff) so I don't know if the voltage would decrease after some miles. But this has been into the optima which has been fully charged every time. Here is my question: I hope to soon tag the car and put a few real miles on her. Will I need decrease this 8 volt charge if it doesn't drop down? Thanks for any thoughts!

8 volt is a bit to high for the battery to like it.
7.4 is what i aim for adjusting them.

i agree with flathead my 50 runs around the same 7.5 that’s a warm engine at @ 12-14 hundred rpm

I would switch back to the one you were using previously, adjusting a regulator can be tricky.

Anything close to 7.1-7.4 is good to go.

Thanks everybody. I'll probably put the other one back on. I usually got too much on my mind lately to try adjusting one.
