I'm miserable
I'm just finishing a Model A hotrod, I had it sitting outside idleing with a radiator filling funnel in the radiator (a big Walker), I let it idle for about 1/2hr and it was hot but maintaining. I thought it was ready for its' maiden voyage and I stuck the plunger into the filler funnel to seal it, shut the engine off and removed the funnel and in that brief time it took to shut off the engine the radiator built up pressure and when I pulled the funnel out I got sprayed with boiling water!
My hands, arms and belly are red as lobsters - well, not quite - I keep aloe in the shop and slathered that all over me, pulled the car back into the shop, closed up and went home for a shower and clean stuff. I'm back now hoping I don't blister. I slather aloe on until it quits working, wash and reapply. Now I'm cleaning the car, its a bigger mess than I am. I hope I can keep working, I have 2 carbs to put together before I go home and the thought of getting my hands sprayed with carb cleaner gives me pause. Thanks in advance for your well wishes, this is just reminder to all that shop accidents do happen. Thanks, oj |

OJ, It would give me pause also! Better say the hell with it, some things just don't get done! Doctors have found that the best thing for a burn is cold water ASAP. It takes the heat out of it. Less heat, less damage!

Re: I'm miserable
A perscription for some silverdine (spelling may not be correct) would relieve the pain.

Re: I'm miserable
OJ, I am sorry to hear about your misfortune. I did the same thing with my Model T. I came back from a short drive, the engine was idling and I wasn't thinking, I unscrewed the radiator cap and that cap literally blew out of my hand because of the back pressure from the overflow pipe not being large enough. Hot water went all over my T shirt and arm and when the T shirt got it, I couldn't get away from the hot water. I can assure you that it will not happen again! Ed

I have the radiator of the 'A' draining to flush it out tomorrow; I built an edelbrock and have a holley ready for in the morning. I'm whipped, sore as hell and hungry. Time to go home. And ED, I know first hand what you mean about the tee shirt. Thanks again, oj |

Re: I'm miserable
So sorry for your pain. Burns are the worst for darn pain. Been there. Use some antibiotic burn cream. Infection was what they told me to protect from with a burn hang in there and we will be praying your pain subsidies soon.

Re: I'm miserable
A guy ask me once, "do you smoke after sex?" I said yes. He said, "didn't it burn? "
Good luck with your project OJ. |

Re: I'm miserable
I was going to make a joke about the car getting back at you for turning it into a hot rod, but instead I hope you feel better soon and I'm glad to hear that it was not much worse, I really am.

An alternate punchline for that joke is: "I don't know. I never looked." 'Sounds like a Henny Youngman line to me. Marshall |

Re: I'm miserable
In an emergency, a cold or cool saline solution works the best, or plain cold water.

Re: I'm miserable
Hi OJ,
I have found that "Jergens Ultra Healing" lotion is good for burns & sun burns. It says it penetrates through five (5) layers of skin surface to start healing at the source ..... that is "deep" penetration. I would "not" use it immediately below the belt line though ...... they say it is also a skin softner. Jergens does work, but I hope you find solace in knowing we truly care about your pain. 3X on the prescription Silvadine. It works miracles on burns and should be in every mechanic's tool box.
