Default Alabama Model A title - are A's titled in Alabama?

I am looking at an A in Alabama to purchase. The owner says that cars over 35 years old in Alabama don't have titles but he can give me a copy of his license plate registration. Anyone familiar with the DMV rules in Alabama,?

he is absolutely correct. Alabama along with about 10 states only use a transferable registration.
that registration is a "title" and transferable to the other 49 states.

some of the others are GA CT NY ME VT NH etc.

I bought a trailer in Texas, where it is the owner's option to title or not. Registration only is transferable, unless you get a DMV jerk that insists on making you get a bonded title like I did. Contacted the PO, he got me a Texas title for about $15 and sent it to me. Transfer was then easy-peasy.

This type of post has been on here many times. The more important issue is if you can get what Alabama has to offer transferred in your home state. I would check with your local DMV first. I know in MD it can be difficult. As a side note, I would get in writing whatever they tell you also. Different clerks sometimes have different outlooks on the situation. (speaking from experience)

Good Advice !! Would also add the need to know the local rules if the title/registration VIN does not match the engine or frame number. Either issue can easily place you in title hell.

well I have titled literally over 2000 people in the last 14 years.

I agree, getting advice here doesnt make much sense, because everyone will tell you about their state and not yours, which is meaningless.

but yes, your Alabama registration IS acceptable in the other 49 states and IS a title.
the seller has been forthright with you.

I would obtain a Bill Of Sale from the owner also, some states require one to provide information as to the sale price for tax purposes.
