Default 1934 V8 temperature sensor

I would like to monitor the water temp in my '34 V8. I bought a gauge from Snyders that is for a Model A. I was hoping it would work as my water pumps are tapped for 1/2 NPT. Well the unit has a 1/2 fitting threaded into a 3/4 inch fitting. I thought I could take it apart and just thread the 1/2 inch part into my water pump. Nope. It leaks. What are folks using to get temperature reading on 1934 flathead V8's?

The port in those pumps - if they are the 35-36 left - are not NPT. There is a seat at the base of the treads in the pump for the temp bulb(if that's what you have). You will need an adapter. I got my adapter from John Wolf & Co in OH.

34 water pumps do not have a threaded hole for a temperature sensor. 35 & 36 LH pumps Do have the temperature port which has a SPECIAL SEAT and the threads are 5/8-18 which is not an NPT thread.

previous owner must have changed water pumps. there is a plugged hole on the side of each water pump

Most likely you have 35 or 36 LH pump mounted on the right and left. Stewart Warner temperature gauge with the bourdon tube style have the 5/8-18 nut and the sensor bulb has a flange to work on the 35-36 original style LH pump. Other temperature gauges may also.
