Default 35/36 roadster Aussie verses USA trimming differences

Hi everyone. My trimmer is getting closer to finishing my roadster and is doing a beautiful job. I had to search far and wide to find some original photos of Aussie roadsters, and as you can see there is a big variation in our tops compared to the US style. Most of the Aussie restored or rodded 35/36 roadsters tend to get the American styling. Anyway the photos are just for comparison. I’m looking forward to showing everyone when it’s finished!

Love that style of top and how it curves to meet the door. I always felt that the center bow was to high.On a '35 roadster I did a few yrs ago I lowered the center bow 2".Here is an old pic of it.

Sheldon that happens here too. In fact I haven’t seen 1 car in Australia that’s been done exactly correct, with the small piece that gets clipped in behind the door curtain. I’ve borrowed that piece so we should get it pretty close!

G'Day Trevor, did you take the Roadster photo's ? If so, what is the "step" for on the LHS when it doesn't have a rumble seat .I guess it must have been work in progress as it looks like tail lights were still coming. Regards Gary

Hi Gary, Yes, I took the photos way back in the late Sixties. You have good eyes picking up this home made Step on this 1935 Ford Roadster. I remember an old bloke owned it. You will also notice that there is a Splash apron added between teh Body and Bumper. Regards Mercman <><

For the benefit of folks reading this Thread "35/36 Ford Roadster - Aussie verses USA", the Roadsters from these two countries are different. Compare this pair of 1936 Ford Roadsters. The Maroon 36 has an American body, while the Tan 36 has an Australian body. Check the different distances from the Rumble Seat Lid to the fabric Hood, and you can readily see the differences between these two Roadster bodies. The same differences apply to the 1935 Ford Roadsters.

Thanks for that Trevor. Now since the Aussie has more room behind the seat - does that create more storage?

Not that I’ll ever afford a ‘35-‘36 Roadster, but it’s great to “learn all things FORD” from you guys all over the world......Thanks!.....Mark

Mr Black with his Australian 1935 Ford Roadster.
Pity that he is standing in front of the rear portion of the Fabric Roof.

The US versions also have a parcel shelf. The seat back in your picture appears to be back farther than a US car?

Uncle Buck you are correct. This is a 35 coupe seat so I could get some
adjustment.

1935 Ford Coupe Seat in 1935 Ford Roadster, so that Dan could get some adjustment for a more comfortable seating position.

Trevor I notice this is one of the 68 business roadsters made in 1935. I know of one other here in Australia. Do you know of any more? Dan.

Dan, This is the only 1935 Ford Roadster photos that I have of a Roadster with a regular Trunk Lid, as opposed to a Rumble Seat Lid. I know of no others. Regards Trevor <><
