Default Small mirror, big blind spot

The passenger side outside mirror is very small, thus leaving a large blind spot at the right rear of the car.

Additionally, the reflection from the wing glass further detracts from viewing the right rear corner.

What are other folks going to increase visibility and safety?

My car only has a drivers side mirror so I make sure I turn my head and take a look at what may be beside the car.

A convex round mirror placed on your side mirror may help.

I find that, even with two 5" door hinge mirrors, the visibility through those mirrors is questionable. Particularly the right side ---- with the side window up, that mirror is mostly useless to me. Anyone tried a film tint on the insides of the glass to improve the vision? Is there a larger mirror anywhere that will improve the vision and still not detract from the appearance?? I know it's subjective --- just looking for opinions.

In addition to the 5" mirrors on both sides, I had the rear window tinted (5%) and also have an inside mirror as well. Not perfect, but gets me by.

Hello Sir, I bought a door hinge mirror that everyone sells and also a 5" head and it appears the shaft on the 5 inch mirror is not long enough to get a bolt on.

What did you buy for your car. Thank you!

For what it is worth:
I have the 4" mirrors and it takes a bit of aiming to get it right. The passenger side mirror is looking at the weeds on the side of the road behind the car. I balance the view so that a car will disappear from the rear view mirror at the moment it appears in the side view mirror. When it is leaving the side view mirror, it is next to me so I can see it through the rear side window (Tudor). The driver's side is similar but if I lean toward the door, I can see the side of my car. The passenger side mirror is tilted out far enough that I really need to lean into my passenger area before I can see the side of the car. This really seems to keep me out of trouble, hope it helps.

Oh, I just remembered. Now that it is dark when I drive home from work, I got a static cling baby shade that is about 12 X 18 and cut it to fit the center portion of the rear window. This allows me to see out the back just fine during the day but cuts way down on the headlights reflecting on the back window and my own windshield which is very distracting at night. I prefer this to having to climb into the back and pull the shade down every evening when I head home, then put the shade up during the day.

I’ve also found that sticking 4” round convex mirrors onto the door post mirrors helps a lot.

I do it the old fashioned way, look over to the right and see what's there. I will admit it leaves much to be desired.

Cool Re: Small mirror, big blind spot

My '31 deluxe roadster when new came only with a driver side rear view mirror. Like every open "A" driver I also run a rear view mirror. Located on the middle top of the windshield frame. But, I do it one better with an original era accessory "dual" rear view mirror bracket. With those babies I never have to turn and look back behind me except when backing the car up! I found the dual mirror bracket on greedBay some years ago.

I bought a pair of Snyder's part # A-17704-A Truck Hinge Mirror. This is the arm and 5" mirror. Their description says it's for the left side only, but they work on both sides just as well. You do, however, need to space out the right side with a 1" coupling bolt (from your local hardware store) in order for the right side to be able to adjust in so it's visible from the driver's seat.

Pictures show the spacer added on the right side mirror.

I'll be ordering two five-inch mirrors from Raney's Truck Parts. I made a mirror mount from some 1/4-inch bar stock, some 3/8-inch steel tube and some other odds and ends, including some button-head bolts. I'll make a second one so I'll have both sides for my '29AA.

Has anyone tried one of those multi view mirrors like Speedway Motors P/N: 91056849?
I see similar multiview mirrors on golfcarts.

I aim my side mirrors like Gene Bob on my Model A and my modern cars. This has saved my ass more than once. It takes far less time and effort to check for a car at my side. No blind spots.
