I'm A Lucky Daughter! -Dads 32 3 Window Coupe
Hi All!
I just wanted to share this beautiful car my dad built from the ground up. He always wanted to build a 32 3 Window in his youth, and it took him 20 years to finish this one. Dad has passed now, a little over a year ago, and I feel the best way to honor and respect this man is to show off his build. It is all steel with a Flathead V-8. The build book, with every detail typed in, is with the car in SoCal. But, I'm in NorCal. I'm going to ship it up here and enjoy it. Its been garage stored for 12 years and the last time we attempted to start it, it sprung a fuel leak. At the time, Dad was pretty deep in his dementia, and he was so disappointed, I just never mentioned it after that. Kind of a sad story, but I'm going to be looking for a reputable vintage car shipping company(enclosed) and a Flathead expert to get her on the road again, so my grandson and I can enjoy it. If there are any recommendations for a proven shippers and/or flathead mechanic in my area, Northern Cal. (near Sacramento), I would really appreciate the tip. There is nothing like a 32 3 Window Street Rod in my book.. Sandi Check out the pics on my profile! Thank you all for reading, and I look forward to hearing from all you experts. PS. Not for Sale! |

Good story, I'm glad to hear you're keeping your dad's car. Getting someone reliable to transport it and get it up and running is important. Get references on people to avoid getting ripped off. Enjoy that beautiful car, best of luck with it!

Way to go in keeping it in the family and getting it on the road again. About 3 hours from you is Hanford Auto Supply - they are very knowledgeable with flatheads and early hotrods. You might want to give them a call - ask for Tim McMaster.

As far as someone to ship your '32 there are several reliable transporters who advertise on the HAMB (sister forum to the Barn)
The H.A.M.B. (jalopyjournal.com) Several suggestions are: Truely Vintage Bill's Auto Works Ben D The suggestion of Tim McMaster is a good one. He might even have a recommendation for a transporter. Your Dad's '32 is a beauty. Sounds like you are the perfect caretaker. Enjoy. Edit: Another thought for someone to work on your '32 is a guy on the HAMB "gimpyshotrods" he is in San Francisco

Passport Transportation. Perhaps a bit more costly than many others but the job is done perfectly each and every time. With one exception, I'd used Passport since the 1970's. The one time I "strayed" was a terrible experience.

Join the Early Ford V-8 Club. The roster will give you names of club members in the area who know people that can work on your car. It's a great resource and you will like the magazine that comes with the roster. There are lots of V-8 Club members in the area of Sacramento.

As mentioned by many , I would not only find a reputable shop to make the necessary repairs to your dads car , but i would also have a local reputable car guy go with you when the vehicle is taken to their shop. I would make sure that all work is done in writing and no money put up front. When the work is done , I would bring that car guy back with you to pick up the car and verify that all work has been done correctly per the bill. I would be offering that person a steak dinner for his help. It is a sad day
when you can not trust anyone , especially when a car of this magnitude is trusted in someone else hands . Take a lot of pics before dropping off the car. Good luck on your holy grail gift. Vic |
