Reverse light switch location
Restoring a 53 Victoria. Long story short, can someone tell me where the reverse light activation swatch is mounted? Additionally, a picture would be great. Thanks in advance.

Re: Reverse light switch location
Probably on the transmission or linkage is my guess. I don't own a 53.

Re: Reverse light switch location
Thanks for the reply . We had the transmission rebuilt over a year ago but we failed to document the removal of this switch. Hoping someone has knowledge of where it’s mounted.

Re: Reverse light switch location
On my '51, it is on the linkage midway down the steering column in the engine compartment. I was able to buy a reproduction switch and bracket a couple of years ago, I believe it was from "Shoebox Central". My car doesn't have backup lights, and I don't expect to add them because they are obvious and kinda ugly. I added it to activate a backup camera, which I find much more useful than backup lights. Given the mechanical similarities, I'll bet the same setup will work on a '53.
EDIT : I just checked and they list the bracket for '49-'51, but not '52-'53. I'll bet you could make one work though. |

Awesome! Thanks for the info. I’ll take a look at the location you mentioned. The car is at a warehouse and not here at my home so I can’t look at it now.

Re: Reverse light switch location
This might help. It is on a 53' Mercury, but should be the same for Ford.

Re: Reverse light switch location
It depends on what transmission you have. It goes on the column and is actuated by the first/revers arm on the standard or it will be the neutral safety switch as shown above for the fordomatic.Tim
