Default Reinstalling wing windows

I recently removed the wing windows on my '48 Coupe and replaced the seals with the Dennis Carpenter kit. The kit was supplied with 6 rivets. 2 short silver, 2 short brass and 2 long brass. Does anyone know the proper way to install these?

The silver ones holds the hinge at the top in and the brass ones hold the rubber seal in place. The silver ones are brads and you put the washer over them and flatten it down. Just did mine and it works well. Have to make some spacers for the tension spring for mine, there were none on mine and window blows shut. Al

What’s the best way to compress such small rivets?

In my 47 coupe the rear quarter windows blow shut and there doesn't appear to be any resistance. Should there be some tension springs there too?

I'm not sure about the rear wing windows, but there should be some spring tension to hold them open. I have my driver's side out now, going to use S. S. steel washers on top of spring since there was no spacer there when I replaced the rubber gasker's on the front wing vents. Trying to find where I put the spring and nut, so I can do the other side. Al

Compressing the rivets, I used a center punch and a piece of steel to back it with. With my wife's help I got it done. If it was easy, women and children would be doing it. Al

Cool Hand......I am assuming your '47 is similar to my '50 coupe. On mine there is a tension spring with nut for adjustment on the bottom pivot pin.

Hey J. we probably are like children, you know as you get older they say you revert back to children, and we both quilify in that respect. I held the punch for the first whack, then I let her hold it for the rest. Sore knuckles ain't fun. Al

If you can find one use a rivet squeezer. Maybe find one you can borrow around an Air Craft repair place. I had a friend that was a pilot and he had one I borrowed.

Why would a pilot need a rivet squeezer ?

Brings to mind the barnstorming pilots of old, painting a patch on the old Jenny before going up.

I did all four vent windows on my 50, I used a rivet punch and my vise to back the rivet. Below is similar to the punch I found at home depot.
