Default Pickup Rear Bumpers

I am in the process of restoring a driver 30 CCPU. I want to add rear bumpers and a trailer hitch. What is the best structurally sound way to do this? I have a pair of sedan bumper brackets but they appear to be too short. Thanks for your ideas.

I think all will be too short. The bed hangs out further than the body so somehow you have to fab an extension. Towing is also a reason to have to fabicate since side to side flexing will be extreme. It is a shame that the frame ends so short and that the bumper brackets are so flimsey. What ever you do, youll likely have to grab on to the bed as well as extend the frame. There have been numerous posts in the past. If the search doesn't reveal enough ideas, try a google search.

Agree with 1001H entirely so far as the overhang of the pickup tray is concerned - way too long. As for mounting a tow bar, I put one on my Phaeton so the ball is as close as possible to the raer axle. I used the bumper mounts and replaced the rivetts with grade 8 bolts. My bar runs between the two sets of bolts that hold the bumperettes. So far, I have towed a trailer weighing about a tonne (2,200 lb) for 30,000 miles with no sign of trouble from it. I've also seen tow bars braced to the rear spring "U" bolts
I considered putting a tow bar on my '30 CCPU too but decided against fr the above reason. If I need to tow, I'll use the Phaeton.
Rear bumpers are not much different, IMO.

Do a search (black bar top of page) as this has been covered multiple times with pics.

The model A rear bumper support brackets are really not well suited to much of a load bearing force. The bed also has relatively light duty structure at the rear tail gate location. If I was planing to set one up for towing capability, I'd try to fabricate heavier members to attach to the frame and go over the cross member back to near the end of the bed. Since Ford never did this for commercial vehicles, a person would have to fabricate something anyway. Might as well make it as strong as possible.

The previous owner installed a hitch on my 30 ccpu.
The workmanship needs a little cleaning up but the design works well.

This way worked well for me, it will protect the fenders.
I used the bumpers from my Tudor, split bumper works well
with the license plate.

If you want to tow something heavy you should probably
do it with another truck

I put a front bumper and brackets on my pickup, I fabricated attachment hardware using Unistrut hardware.

I regret not having researched this prior to purchasing rear bumpers and attachment frame. I made the assumption the mounting frame would be common to all A's. Wrong. Anyone wish to purchase this hardware including the mounting frame of unknown vehicle?
