how tight should the the fan belt be on a 1929 four door?

Fan belt on any model a should only be tight enough so it doesn't slip. Doesn't require much tension.

My car was overheating and the belt was at 1", and I noticed that there were shiny spots on the inside of the fan belt. I tighten the belt to 1/2", put some belt dressing on and the overheating stopped. That is my experience. JackD |

About 'perfect' when the belt has 1/2" deflection in and 1/2'' out from straight position.
BTW...use the 'longest' length between pulleys to gage this deflection, not the shorter areas. BTW...You will have better belt grip and wear from a cogged belt, your choice. Last edited by hardtimes; 06-22-2015 at 12:23 PM. Reason: .... |
