35 Ford pickup cab number
Happy new year. I purchased a trailer load of parts about 30 years ago and was told the vehicle was a 34 Ford pickup that had been almost totally dismantled about 19 years before that after driving it home. After checking with the Ford museum it turned out to be a 1935 pickup. I am working on it rather slowly and just noticed a number stamped into the front of the cab on the drivers side (engine side). This number (3995) does not match the serial number stamped into the frame which starts out *C18U-..... My understanding so far is that it was Canadian built. Is 3995 either a separate serial number for the cab or a paint code?
Thanks John |

Re: 35 Ford pickup cab number
Can't answer your question but you are a very fortunate man. In my book it doesn't get much better than a '35 pickup. I hope you will post up photos as you go.

Re: 35 Ford pickup cab number
The "C" in C18U designates a Canadian-built serial number. That 3995 has nothing to do with vehicle identity for titling purposes. DD

Re: 35 Ford pickup cab number
Browsing through old threads I suspect I may have found the answer to my question. The older thread refers to 1937 vehicles however I wonder whether it would apply to 1935 as well? https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=157537 If this is correct who would have built the cabs for Canadian 1935 pickups?

Re: 35 Ford pickup cab number
It's definitely Canadian. This link has the basic prefixes for the different years. They liked short number sequences so they would change the prefix before going above 9999. 1935 it is.
LINK: http://www.wnyrg.org/canvins.html As far as body numbering in Canada, I have no idea. Companies that made specialty bodies for Ford were generally the only ones that put body tags on. Budd made delivery bodies for Ford but I don't think they made any pickup cabs. The Canadian Ford Company made most of there own stuff with some exceptions.
