Original Washington Blue
Since I have finally got my 32 5W running, I needed to clean it up for the local run this weekend. I have never had this car really operable so I had never waxed it. I was rubbing away and some paint chipped off the A pillar. The car is dark blue now but the exposed paint is absolutely beautiful. It is very near the repaint color but for some reason it is extreamly more attractive. It is also perfectly smooth with no orange peel. I will see if I can chip some more new paint off. I really can't believe how attractive the original paint is.
Does anybody know where some correct Washington Blue paint can be bought? Last edited by Andy; 10-09-2012 at 05:15 PM. |

Re: Original Washington Blue
Is Lacquer available in your part of the country?? I found that colors mixed in that were much closer to true origanal color, as they were painted at the factory in lacquer.

Macs sells it in lacquer ($$). Never bought any, so can't vouch for the correctness of their WB.

Try going to an automotive paint supply store in your area. most have a special camera that they put up to your existing paint and it printa out a mixing code. had a gas tank on my A pickup go bad and had to replace it. it had Blue Rock Gree lacquer on it and they matched it perfectly .

Re: Original Washington Blue
The paint formulas given in the Antique Ford Repaint Manual can still be read and used to mix paint. I had PPG makes me some for my car from the repaint manual, and it turned out beautifully.

Pat, Saved to my pic files!!! That is what I hope to get mine to look like. The paint on mine is 40 years old and peeling.

Re: Original Washington Blue
Andy, I see you are from Texas. My 5W, as I understand it, was originally built in Texas and later restored there in the 80's. Pat
