Those that have and those that will
Over 2k on my little roadster with no problems. Just when you think this is the most dependable car i have Carma slaps you in the face, just ran a short way 30 40 miles total in the ultra hot day with ease when taking the the pine belt club to a small gas station in the country, just gas up, fire her up ran for less than a minute while everyone got line up when she shut down. first thou gt was blown fuse, but not the case, jump out lift the hood found zero spark at the points with switch one. I have a pop out switch so this was my first thought, but the amp gage flick on when the switch was turn on and off. Being less than two miles for the house friend threw a rope and hook me in, after every one left went to see what happen three hours and passed, check the point with a light and to my surprise had fire there, jump in and fire right up backfired couple times and ran smooth, Now to my question would a shorted out condenser cause no fire, I know a coil will, with ever thing working i don't know if testing the pop out will be worth taking out, any thoughts AL

I'd bet on the condenser first.

Are you using modern points, my guess is that could be the problem. I know that I had my share of trouble trying to run the modern points.

Re: Those that have and those that will
I did have more condenser problems with the modern points setup than with the original condenser but I had more problems with the modern points than anything else. Sometimes if I tinkered with them enough it might run a while. Most times I would have to replace the points. When my double quit running in the middle of the road and had to be towed, that was enough for me. Besides being a real pain to set the gap,the modern points will fail for no visable reason, just as if the switch was turned off and it will appear to be shorting to the distributor housing. I have gone back to original points.

Re: Those that have and those that will
Yup, especially on a hot day. But i think the problem here was a condensor.

Re: Those that have and those that will
mmmm I just don't get it. The modern point set up routinely gets beat up as being inferior. In defense of this set up I have been running the modern upper and lower plates with quality small block Ford points and condenser for the past nine years with plenty of miles and to date no problems. Last week we traveled in the high desert of eastern Washington State in near 100' heat and my engine just purred.
