Default Model A Youth Scholarship

Last week, I received a letter from Jo Johnson stating that I had received the Model A Ford Youth Scholarship. This is a scholarship that is given to college level students for their outstanding academics and their involvement in the Model A hobby. For those of you who donate to this scholarship fund, I would like to say THANK YOU.

Have you given thought to a degree in automotive restoration;

Yes I've thought about it. But once you start mixing your hobbies and your career, it's not really a hobby anymore. Model A's are my way to relax and have fun. I dont want to ruin that.

What's that saying? "If you enjoy what you do for a living you'll never work a day in your life". (or something like that)

I totally agree with ya Jordan! When I work on my A, I'm cursing the rusty bolts, my back is killing me and I'm nursing the cuts and bruises on my hands. But for some reason, it's still fun in limited doses.

I noticed one time that the person who does something for a living, usually doesn't do the same thing for themselves...
  • Nurses who care for others often don't take good care of themselves.
  • The auto painter drives around town in a rusty beater.
  • The tile guy has a kitchen back splash that has been unfinished for 7 years.
  • The plumber has a bathroom with a broken shower stall waiting to be fixed.

exactly. I work at David Anderton's Model A shop in fort worth, and there's always model a's in there. He only get's to drive his cars twice a year, and they get neglected. He's so busy working on everyone elses cars that he can't work on or drive his own.

Well, I dunno if that applies to everyone 'cuz it's still a hobby to me....... I am on the Board of a national Model T club, I attend quite a few driving tours each year with my family for the sole purpose of being a vacation, I volunteer my assistance with the Model A club and a couple others, I frequent this forum as a hobbyist, ...and so forth.

Maybe the difference is that I absolutely love my job, and I love helping people. I have what many people consider a dream job but the biggest thing that makes it great is that I look forward to coming to work each and every day because I enjoy what I do.

My suggestion to Jordan or anyone else is find employment in something you are passionate about in life. Then work diligently at being the very best in that field, and when you achieve those goals it won't seem like a job. Life's too short to be miserable just trying to earn a paycheck. Good luck and congrats on your scholarship.

It wasn't taken that way. I truly wish you all the success in your career path and hope you can/will find a field where you have a blast in what you do. I don't know whether this is your Sr. year is H/S or whether you have graduated so I'll ask, have you been accepted in college anywhere yet? If not, where are you applying and what field are you leaning towards?

I graduated from Fort Worth Christian High School in May. I was accepted to 10 universities and got scholarships at most, but right now i'm just going to go to Tarrant County College and then either after Christmas, or next year transfer to Oklahoma Christian University or Abilene Christian University. I'm currently undecided on my major.
