Default '56 ford front fender installation

My neighbor is attempting to mount the front fenders on his '56 wagon. He removed them for restoration. The lowest mounting hole at the rear of the fender matches up with a hole in the rocker. The hole in the rocker panel is round, about 1/2 inch in diameter. There is no nut in the hole. What is used in the rocker hole to thread a bolt into to secure the fender?
Thanks for your reply in advance.

the nut like a lot of the inner fenders etc has a square nut with a clip on it that holds it in place.his has fallen out which often happens.get another.rob one from the inner fender if he has to.

My local hardware store has these nuts, they are called "U nuts" in the hardware trade. I just picked up some last week at Morgan Hardware in Rockmart GA.
