Radiator/shell mounting problems
Ok....so, I had a 29 radiator re-cored. Since I got it back, the shell or any shell for that matter will not alighn and is off by about 1/4". You think the radiator shop could have made it too tall. The tank or the mounting tabs should not have been messed with. So, getting a little frustrated. Anyone have a loose stock radiator they can measure or any ideas?

Re: Radiator/shell mounting problems
unless you are going for 500 points a 1/4 inch will solve the problem, is there any other thing that is off because of misalignment?
what measurement do you want?

Well if the radiator is too tall wont that effect the hood alignment and fit?

I have a stock radiator I can measure if you know what you want measured. It is a 29 radiator with a funnel inlet. I have had several original radiators recored by Berg Radiator. I have only installed one of them so far and it fit fine. The side and bottom, I believe, are one piece and a recoring job shouldn't have any affect on the steel sides and bottom. Rusty Nelson |

Re: Radiator/shell mounting problems
Exactly.... Not sure where the issue is. I took it to a regular radiator shop so, you know how some places freak out and overthink it because it a "Model A". I even thought maybe tank stretched or buldged when the pressure tested it... Any other ideas as to possible cause? I mean its going on a beater truck but I still want the hood and eveything to fit right.

Re: Radiator/shell mounting problems
Could the new core be too long? Can't quite visualize it, but if it is sitting on the lower mount and the core is too long that could cause the misalignment... right?
I am not sure, so it is just a thought. |

Re: Radiator/shell mounting problems
Thats what Im thinking but, the tabs shouldnt have moved so if I remove the shell filp it over and line up the mounting holes with the shell lying on the radiator vs. over the radiator I should be able to see where its off. Did that make any sense? Stay tuned......

Re: Radiator/shell mounting problems
My 28 has the original radiator and shell, as well as the fan shroud, so I used that to measure from the bottom of the top tank to the center of the bracket hole, and it measures 2 5/8".
I measured my spare original radiator for 1929, and between the tanks it measures 19 5/8". They made your core too tall. They need to trim some off the top of the core. |
