Default Leak with rebuilt tillotson

I have been went through this Tilloston carburetor more times than I care to remember and can't find a reason for it to leak, NO it doesn't leak, it pours ! ! !
I tapped the needle into the seat. I have increased the float height from 1" to 1-1/8" and then to 1-1/4" and gas still squirts out of the vent at the top of bowl (marked in photo). The float moves freely and I can hear moving after it is assembled. Of course I can't tell how far it moves up toward the top of the bowl but I don't see anything that might restrict it's movement.

Any thoughts about something I can try get the float to function properly???

I had a similar problem and the inside of the cover gasket interfered with the float. I carefully trimmed the gasket and it solved the problem. You can check it by putting the gasket over the cover in your photo and see if it touches the float. Remember the gasket will move around a bit as the cover screws get centered in the gasket holes.

Something in your photo doesn't seem right, the shutoff needle valve assemble seems to be sitting too high (when viewed upside down as in your photo). When you put in the new needle valve receiver (not sure of the proper name) did you check to see if the old gasket that goes down in the hole was removed, otherwise when you put the new gasket in the old one may still be in there, which would cause the needle valve assembly to sit too high (when viewed upside down).

I doubled checked to make sure the old seat gasket was removed.
I took the problem child and 2 other floats and put them in the parts wash tank. The other two were twice high out of the liquid as the problem float. I stated shaking the bad float and after a while I could feel something moving inside the float. A replacement float solved the problem!!!!

Thanks

It is always a good idea to submerge any float in hot water and look for bubbles escaping before using that float.

You beat me to the diagnosis, but I too have come across a brand new Tillotson float with a pin hole in it! As J Franlin advises...check them all , even new ones.

Dunk the leaky float in tank sealer and keep it as a spare. You'll be surprised how well it works.

OR solder the hole shut.

If you do this, use the minimum amount of solder. Solder is heavy and too much will cause the float to float low in the fuel.
