Default Underhood clean up

Anyone have a suggestion for cleaning the underside of my '35 hood. I thought about using Dawn dish soap and some fine steel wool.

Before using steel wool, I would try a 3M scrubby --- it will be a lot easier on the paint.

Also, try spraying it with WD-40 ---- it might just loosen some of it up.

WD-40 or spray on minerial spirits.
Like solvent dissolve like substances.
Wipe a way.
Don't scourer away the paint and dull it.
p.s. Never touch your windshield with a 3-M Scotch pad unless you want ti scratched.

skip.

Try some Simple Green, spray it on, let it set for a few minutes and hose it off. Be sure to cove the Flathead with a plastic tarp to keep crud and water off of it.

I would try WD-40, Simple Green or like cleaner. I'd be leary of steel wool or an abrasive 3M pad unless you want to rebuff the paint under there (cleaning is bad enough). I try to keep underside of the hood clean, wiped and use some polish to make the next time easier. LouB.

Ditto on the 3M pads, they will even scratch chrome as well as glass. They really have no place in an auto cleaning kit unless all you have is a brushed finish in the first place.

If you want to preserve the paint you could try Fantastic orange cleaner to cut the grease, I use a #0000 polishing pad, 4 aught polishing pad, this is a synthetic, usually white in color pad for putting a polish or a buff on woodwork, I use it with tong oil finish and buff the coats between applications, this is not aggressive like a scotch brite but still has the porosity to absorb the gunk as you clean.

How dirty is it?
Caked on grease or just dusty dirt?

Home Depot sells a product call Krud Kutter. It works very good on old grease and rinses off with water. I buy 2 bottles at a time...

I have said this many times on the old barn. I use "Awesome". Get it at the Dollar General store for a $1.00 a bottle. I have found nothing better. Spray on hose off, spray on hose off until all the grease is gone. Just be sure to hose with water until all soap is gone. If you don't like it, send me your address and I'll send you a $1.00.
Regards, Charles
