Wire-on Welting ?

I have found a few pictures that were close enough to see how the wire-on welting is installed on a Cabriolet. Some have the large bead toward the body and some have it toward the top. In the attached picture, which side of the welt should be turned toward the body #1 or #2 ? ? ?
