Default Rumble seat side panel

We need some in put on the rumble seat side panel design in a 1930 Cabriolet. We purchased a template of the panel that is used by the upholstery shop and it was not good fit in our car. We have made a template that seems to fit and uses some of the comments and pictures posted in various threads on the FB. The first two photos show the panel from the front and rear.
The area we are still not sure of is at the top – front corner. One thread we read said they thought the rumble seat side panel went behind the front side panel (the panel attached to the door post) about 1 inch. The third photo shows the panel standing vertical and clamped against the wood brace that goes from the door post back to the rear quarter panel brace (attached just below the rumble lid hinge). There is about a 3 to 4 inch gap between the rumble seat side panel and the tack rail surface that the front side panel would be attached to. The fourth photo shows how much bend has to made to the rumble seat side panel to get to go behind the front panel.
Another question we have about the rumble seat side panel is how and where is it attached to the car. Should there be a sheet metal groove along the bottom edge like the one for cowl side panel? What is suppose to hold the panel in place along the top edge?
We would like hear your thoughts about how this panel fits.
Thanks

Not completely sure if Cabs & Roadster rumble/trunks are the same but photo shows Marco's 30-31 Roadster panels.

I should have noted that the car has a screw type adjustable seat. Marco's Roadster appears to have a fixed seat. I have seen some comments that the Coupe with an adjustable seat are very similar in this area.
Thanks for photo.

Call LeBaron Bonney and ask them if they would sell you a pattern for your car.

I have the driver’s side rear panel out of my “29 cabriolet, and I’ll send a picture of it to you. The picture will show where the mounting screw goes. I wish my panels were a little more flexible than they are for ease of removal, but maybe they have to be that stiff to stay in place. Another thing, my “29 has the metal seat mount attached to the floor and it has very sharp rear corners. I advise you to put black duct tape or something over those corners so you don’t damage the side panels when removing them in the future.

Those rear panels are really easy to make and attaching the vinyl or fabric is a no brainer. I wish that the entire rumble seat area of mine was fabric like the front seat and door panels instead of vinyl. I know the vinyl is more practical, but I still think my car would have looked better with matching fabric front and rear.

I think the fabric used on mine is Herculon (sp?) so it would withstand stepping on and clean easily.

Mike, thanks for the info and photos.
Does your rumble seat side panel slide in behind the panel that is attached to the door post? If so, about how much?
I only see one mounting hole? The sub rails we remove were not original and didn't have any metal tracks to hold the bottom of the panel in place. Would it be possible to get a photo of where they located on the sub rail?
I saw a 68C at car show last summer that had the half moon cut out in the side panel. Do you know why it is there?
Thanks again
John

Mike
Does the attached sketch look like your side panel that is attached to the door post?

I couldn't get the thread to accept the sketch. Can I send to you in a email?

Thanks
John

John, you’ve got to remember that mine is a 68A, and there were a lot of improvements done in a very short time because mine is basically a prototype. Mine has no channel for the bottom of the panel, and the front of the panel does not come all the way to the front side panel. There is a gap which the seat back covers.

Notice that sharp point on the back corners of the bottom seat support.

I think the half moon opening is just to remove it easier.

It looks like the rumble seat platform and seat cushion will hold the panel in location at the rear. The only place it might need the channel would to the side of the rumble seat pan.
Since the adjustable seat has a little more clearance between the seat and the door post, I wondering if the door post panel should go down to the sub rail?
Of course I usually get in trouble ever time I think out loud!

Thanks a lot for the photos
John

The half moon cutout is to access the body mount bolt in that area .
