Default Order of Desirability?

I guess the climate can have some effect on the order of desirability of the various models, but here in New Zealand, this would be my list:
Station Wagen (because of rarity and practicality)
Victoria (because of rarity)
Two door tourer (Also because of rarity)
Roadster
Phaeton
Roadster Pick Up
Pick Up
Fordor Sedan (Heavy & expensive to restore)
Tudor Sedan

To a degree, the prices reflect the list?

What's your take?

I think many would have a different list, I would. As to price I think it is mostly affected by number of models made and how many survived .

People haven't changed much over time -- if we were all exactly alike, Ford would have made just one style painted one color & we would all use the same type of oil & freeze protection.

We all have our personal favorites, but if prices are an indication, it's Cabriolet Sedan, Deluxe Phaeton, then Roadsters of all kind and Convertibles, then Phaetons, then closed cars.

Of all closed cars, I'd prefer the Tudor, followed by the Coupe, and only then would I look at the Station Wagon, and I love station wagons.

I don't know if you are talking about value, or actual desirability. The various open cars are usually more valuable, but I for one do not want one. I want a closed, comfortable car that I can be out of the weather, with comfortable seats, and adequate leg room, and easy to get in and out of. For me, that is a Town Sedan. I have driven a good friends roadster and it was a pretty car and neat looking, but not for me...........

Hi TerryH,

If you may have a feeling of being somewhat alone, I bought a 1930 Town Sedan to compete with my 1930 coupe.

One can ride & go places with friends as opposed to just riding alone!

That list would be subjective & has models that were very rare or never sold new in NZ .eg. Station Wagon & Victoria.
I always expect the Tudor to be at the bottom of any list, but even our American Model A friends seem to appreciate & laud the practicality & honest worth of a Tudor.

I agree with your list, but you missed coupe, which would be right after the pu's for me.

Also town car would be #1 for me, closely followed by A400....

A bit hard to remove pure avarice from a list. Town cars and 400As would be money reasons in my view. As to genuine desire for me?

Coupe

Pickup

Roadster (but it couldn't be stock)

Roadster pickup (but again, not stock)

Deluxe Phaeton (the tudor)

Not sure how to break it to my friend who has a 29 Tudor that his car is less desirable. Think I better just keep it to myself. This must be the most common of the Model A's I'm guessing.

No worries Hudsn47, tudors are way ahead of fordors on my list, not even sure fordors appear in my top 20. I know they are somewhere behind AA's and phaetons. Rod

The 29 Tudor was the most sold of any Model A, and for good reason. They are well built, have good looks, and are very practical and all for a good price. I have a 29 Tudor and like it, but would rather have a 29 Town Sedan, or Fordor. The Fordors have real class and more comfort.

I agree with Tom. The bad thing about a tudor is the little front seats.I've got a 29 and a 31 tudor. I would prefer a fordor or town sedan over the other closed models.. I like the looks and the bench seat. My favorite would be a 1930 august or later Briggs town sedan because I use to have one. Any town sedan or fordor would do. Anybody close by that wants to trade one for a nice late 31 tudor?

My order of desirability to own would have to be:
1 Edsel's dual cowl phaeton
2 My Dad's 31 Vicky (he has had since I was 2, one day it will be mine hopefully not anytime soon)
3 My 31 Coupe
4 I really like 28-29 Pick ups
5 I'm a sucker for 4 door standard phaetons
6 Any roadster (I like 28-29's but who am I kidding I would take any roadster)

I'm glad some of you guys came to the defense of the Tudor. I was beginning to get an inferiority complex.

I like my Tudor in that I can drive with 3 passengers comfortably, although I have squeezed in a 4th on few occasions. (Of course, I'm not the one trying to climb into the backseat area through the small opening created by flipping the seat forward!)

While there may be more glamor with the flashier models, I'm quite happy with my Tudor. It's a nice size driver.

Good to hear

We brought the Tudor for very good reasons. While we looked at a couple of Fordor's, the Tudor made more sense for us - easier to get in and out of the front, kids can't open the back doors and fall out, less wood to worry about .

Ultimately, both Dad and I want a pickup and a Phaeton, but it's not practical for us all! Personally, neither of us like the Coupes at all.

As has already been said, if we all liked the same things, the world would be a boring place (we'd all drive a Prius! ARGH! I'd rather kill myself )

When I was looking for my Model A, I had it narrowed down to a '31 coupe or pickup. The pickup won out mainly because it became available first and was within my price range. After having it for 3 years now, I still like it.

NOW, If I were to get a second Model A, right now it would be a toss up between a couple and one of the Fordors. But either way, it would still have to be a '31.

I suppose it all depends on whether you want them for looks or drive ability.

I have a station wagon, and I love to look at it, but its not comfortable to drive. Its even more difficult to get in and out of than my pickup. The seats are very close together, so there is no legroom for a 5'10" guy. But it was meant for short trips from the station to the hotel, not long trips.

My SW sedan, now that's comfortable. I prefer it for driving over the coupe I had once, the pickup, the wagon and the AA's.
