From that link it looks like the two Fords were running the 14.9hp English spec 2043cc engines....

Interesting post this as the interest seems to come from the rest of the world posters rather than from the USA. I am an honorary member of that group as I went to 'secondary' school in the UK. It would be great if anybody had any links to references for Model A's competing in races in the US back in the day. I was amazed by the wealth of resources available about the 1929 Tourist Trophy races in general and the Model A's that took part in particular and would love to find similar data about races nearer home.

A 2 liter Model A averaging 50 mph? Check them for Mitchell ODs!

Yep, I'm rather suspect about that too.... the external difference between the 2 litre and 3.3 is only detectable by someone in the know, who knows ...? maybe overbore and extra hi comp head? all practically undetectable in those days unless you strip the engine.

OT, but I enjoyed telling my friend with a 275GTB that our engines were the same size.

The Austin Seven that won the 750cc class averaged 60 mph. An average of 50 mph for a 2+ litre Ford wouldn't have needed to be a ringer. There obviously always has been a substitute for cubic inches!
