Holley 94 dripping
Hi guys,
Here is the deal(ordeal) I just found. Started new motor with freshly rebuilt 94. New throttle shaft(reamed in place) , new plates, new gaskets etc. the works. Throttle plates are centered in the bores , everything is nice and tight BUT right side bore is dripping fuel at idle from atomizer , so it must draw fuel through main jet , but how, because plates are not even close to the transition holes... So , I´m confused . If somebody has an idea please educate me. Thank you. |

Re: Holley 94 dripping
Have you checked the fuel pressure out of the pump to see if below 4 1/2 lbs? I have found some new off-shore pumps putting out up to 8lbs. That may be the problem. D

I like about 3 lbs. Use a good pressure regulator. Also make sure your needle and seat are good. No grooves.

Re: Holley 94 dripping
Does it drip when you shut the engine off or only drip at idle.
And are you sure all the air bleeds are clear. Fuel pressure is a big thing with Holley 94's and Strombergs but usually high fuel pressure makes both sides drip. One other thing did you put both throttle blades in the same way,I have seen people put the blade in wrong one one side letting more air in causing a problem like you have. Re: Holley 94 dripping
like pete said a plugged air bleed will do that.

Re: Holley 94 dripping
I know you said the throttle plates were centered, but double check. Flashlight in hand, idle adjustment completely backed off so that the throttle plates are pulled full closed, straddle the engine and peer into the carb bores. Confirm that both throttle plates are snug in the bore, fore and aft, left and right; no gaps whatsoever. Be sure the atomizers are screwed down snug.
As noted in previous posts, high fuel pressure is the primary suspect. If that is tested okay (under 3.5 psi), check the float level. Set it on the low side of spec; like a smidge over 11/16 inch below the rim of the bowl. This is not easy on the 94, like it is on the 97. Check other threads for how to set float level. |

Re: Holley 94 dripping
Most 94's I build require an O/S shaft. I have learned the hard way that the shaft
bore on the right side will almost ALWAYS take a .005 O/S shaft. The line reaming is required in the middle portion and the left side. Here's the rub, the right side bore must be measured with telescoping gage to be sure it is no more than .002 out of round. This is an obscure detail that lots of times we luck out of but occasionally bites us in the butt. Charlie ny |

Re: Holley 94 dripping
Thanks for responses.
I´ll triple check the pressure, I have kept that around 2,5-2,7 , should be ok. Actually I didn´t check if it´s dripping engine off or not , I´ll check that.(electric pump) Throttle plates are checked twice . I also found that flipped plate thing when I was searching for reason that 94 didn't respond adjusting like it should. I did poke the air bleeds open but I have to check that again. Can´t drop idle speed any more , but I can lower the float level a bit. I put in O/D shafts and reamed the holes . I´ll check that out of round bore. Thanks a lot , I´ll let you know what I found. |

Re: Holley 94 dripping
I'm running 3 94's on my 57'yblock. 2 of the 3 carbs would drip when idling. I had to drop the float level a couple times before they stopped dripping. Hasn't hurt the performance that I can tell.

Re: Holley 94 dripping
Just went through that carb again...
Air bleeds are open , plates centered , carb bores round. Pressure 2,7 psi , no dripping engine off. I did drop the fuel level from 1 11/32 to 1 13/32 and that cured the problem.(barely) It´s on the edge , if idle speed is higher then it starts to drip. Only that right side. I´m too running 3x2´s , but first I have to dial in this center one and then start to fiddle with end ones. |

Re: Holley 94 dripping
I assume when you say fuel level, you mean float level. It sounds like you are good with what you have now, especially since you say there is no dripping with the engine off. There is also a trick used on performance engines when the camshaft used requires the engine to idle faster. To avoid the dripping at idle because the throttle plates are opened more, a small hole is drilled in the throttle plates, which allows extra air to pass by without opening the plates more.
